Fraud Warning

Accounts pretending to be me

People pretending to be me, or to work for me, have been contacting readers and authors. If a message that claims to come from Alex & Books feels off, check it against this page before you reply, pay or share anything.

What is happening

Scammers are using my name, my photos and the Alex & Books brand to reach people by email, direct message, ads and fake profiles. They offer things like book promotion, newsletter features, podcast or interview spots, reviews, courses and cheap copies of books.

None of this comes from me or my team, and I am not connected to it in any way.

What I will never do

  • Ask for your passwords, login codes or access to your social media accounts.
  • Ask for your bank or card details, or ask you to pay in gift cards or crypto.
  • Email you from a free account like Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo. Emails from me and my team come from an @alexandbooks.com address.
  • Sell products, promotions or giveaways anywhere other than this website and the accounts below.

My official accounts

These are the only accounts I post from. Anything else using my name or photos is not me.

How to protect yourself

  • Check the handle letter by letter. Copies often add a dot, an underscore or an extra letter.
  • Be wary of anything urgent, or any offer that seems too good to be true.
  • Look at the address an email really came from, not just the name it shows.
  • Do not open links or files in a message you were not expecting.

If you think a fake account has contacted you, stop replying, report it on the platform it came from, and block it.

Not sure? Ask me

If you get a message or an offer that claims to be from me and you are not sure it is real, email alex@alexandbooks.com and I will tell you.
